1. The American mail brought yours of the 26th. Aug, also letters from Condliffe and Keesing. We are allowed to use Keesing’s report on the East Coast, and propose to run it through the Journal that the M.Eth. Board is seeking to establish. Condliffe has asked for a quote for 1800 reprints when available for broad-casting. I hope that some day they will have the good sense to attach Keesing to you for a period. That ‘contact’ should do him a world of good and put him on the right lines for his work with the modern Maori. The chap is keen, has a ‘ngakau’ interest in the subject & the capacity to draw people in high places to view it sympathetically. Condliffe hopes there will be an opening for him in N.Z. & suggests a chair of Anthropology at one of the University Colleges. Things are shaping towards a chair in Maori with associated subjects tacked on. Engari me waiho pea hei penihana mo taua!1
